A one page essay does not have room for broad topics. You cannot explain the entire history of the Civil War in one page. Instead, focus on a specific event or person. Your thesis statement must be a single, clear sentence that appears at the end of your introduction. It should make a specific claim that you can prove with just two or three pieces of evidence. Avoid complex, multi-part arguments that require long explanations.

The traditional five-paragraph essay often feels crowded on a single page. Instead, use a three-paragraph structure. Start with an introduction (4-5 sentences) that hooks the reader and states your thesis. Follow this with one robust body paragraph (8-10 sentences) that combines your strongest evidence and analysis.
